UX Analysis: Annotation Query Service

ann 1

This was the original design for a Notion-inspired notebook, so that a user would be able to do their work on a single interface and embed different blocks into it rather than going back and forth between different services. I redesigned and suggested a few minor tweaks to make the notebook aspect more obvious and interactive to use.

The ribbon at the top makes it easier to integrate the pre-existing ‘Ask AI’ feature, and also introduces common general elements such as being able to use templates, add comments and add pages to the notebook.

The toolbar at the bottom lets the user annotate this digital notebook as they would a physical book. These features would enable users to bring the best of both worlds together—digital and analogue.

Improve Data Visualisation

At first glance, the chart between phenotypes and genetic variants is quite vast, jumbled and difficult to read—a mess of nodes and edges. The goal was to make it easier to read and understand, and not make it look too untidy.

Improved Chart

Two changes were suggested: the first one was have collapsible nodes, and have visual cues for those nodes. This would reduce the number of nodes and edges displayed at a first glance, and would also give the user control over what they want to view in further detail.

The second change suggested was to have different sizes and edge types (eliminate edge labels) to reduce content and make the chart readable even when it’s zoomed out.
